PRESS RELEASE

I, Haroon-ur-Rashid, Vice-Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council express deep concern regarding the Press Release dated 18-04-2023 issued by seven Members of the Pakistan Bar Council out of a total of the 23 Members of this Council. The same is an individualistic and minority view, and therefore, does not represent the stance taken by the Pakistan Bar Council. I reiterate the principled stance taken in the Resolution passed during the meeting of the Pakistan and Provincial/Islamabad Bar Councils, High Court Bars and Supreme Court Bar Association held on 17-04-2023. The press release issued by the minority Members of the Pakistan Bar Council prima facie seems to be issued in haste as it mentions that there are 156 Bar Councils instead of the total of six Bar Councils including 4 Provincial, 1 ICT and the Pakistan Bar Council. It is further stated that the majority cabinet members of the Supreme Court Bar Association i.e. 10 out of 17 have supported the stance taken at the Lawyers Representative Conference held on 17-04-2023. The entire legal fraternity stands firmly with the Rule of law and upholding the Constitution. The aforementioned press release amounts to a minority dictating the majority.

Furthermore, I would highlight that Mr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhary, learned Member, Pakistan Bar Council has already disassociated himself from the aforementioned Press Release dated 18-04-2023 and disowned the same while declaring that he is a part and parcel of the Independent Group of lawyers and will remain in this group in future too.

(Haroon-ur-Rashid)
