PRESS RELEASE

A Joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council with Vice-Chairmen and Chairmen, Executive Committees of the Provincial/Islamabad Bar Councils, was held today, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Hassan Raza Pasha, Chairman, Co-ordination Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, and passed the following Resolutions:-

RESOLUTION NO.1
INSTITUTION OF FRESH CASES DURING
STRIKE IN COURTS OF PUNJAB

The Joint meeting unanimously demanded from the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Lahore, not to stop institution of cases in sub-Ordinate Courts and in the High Court at Principal seat including the Benches, whenever the learned members of the Bar observe Strike on the call of statutory bodies of lawyers i.e. Punjab Bar Council or the Pakistan Bar Council. The Joint meeting further resolved that due to oral instructions passed by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Lahore poor and innocent litigants have to suffer un-necessarily for not allowing them to file their cases of urgent nature.

RESOLUTION NO.2
MISSING PERSONS

The Joint meeting unanimously condemned that persons are still missing especially in the Province of Balochistan, which reflects the mind-set and acts of the rulers of colonial era. They emphasized that despite constant demands of the Bar that if anyone has committed crime, he/she should be produced before the Court of law and his parents/relatives should be informed. The Joint meeting demanded from the Government that missing persons should be produced before competent Court of law.

RESOLUTION NO.3
ILLEGAL DETENTION OF MR. MUNIR
HUSSAIN LUGHMANI, ASC, MANSEHRA

The Joint meeting strongly condemned the arrest of Mr. Munir Hussain Lughmani, Advocate Supreme Court and Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and detaining him under wrongful confinement by the Mansehra Police. The Pakistan Bar Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and different Bar Associations, have already demanded that action may be taken against the responsible police officials. The Joint meeting has expressed its serious concerns that till today no action has been taken against them and demanded from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Inspector General, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to immediately take stern action against responsible police officials involved in illegal detention of learned Advocate and award them exemplary punishment.
