PRESS RELEASE
An emergent meeting of Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council was held today, i.e. 19.09.2024, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Farooq Hamid Naek, Vice-Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council in Council’s Office at Islamabad to discuss the proposed Amendments being made through 26th Constitutional Amendments in the Constitution of Pakistan. Since Mr. Riazat Ali Sahar, Chairman, Executive Committee, Pakistan Bar Council, was unwell, he could not attend the meeting.
The Executive Committee expressed serious concerns over the secrecy accorded to proposed amendments by the Government and mode and manner in which Session of the Parliament was convened and thereafter its time was changed after every few hours for approval of proposed Amendments. Such like act is blatant violation of norms of Parliamentary parties, rule of law and democratic values. Therefore, tarnishing the reputation of Parliament and its members who are chosen representative of people of Pakistan.
The Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council in its today’s meeting considered and deliberated upon the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendments clause by clause and made certain amendment/changes therein and deferred the matter for further deliberations in its next meeting fixed for 25.09.2024 at 2 p.m. at Islamabad, since these Amendments are very important, so need further detailed deliberations.
