Mr. Haroon-ur-Rashid, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Hassan Raza Pasha, Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, have expressed their deep concerns and condemned the illegal arrest of Raja Muhammad Zafeer, Advocate, by the Islamabad Police on yesterday’s evening. Earlier FIR was registered against him in a murder case, which was fixed for Monday, the 27th November, 2023, before Court for bail and Police was apprehend that Court would grant him bail, therefore, Police registered another case of theft in Nilore Police Station, Islamabad and arrested him before hearing of case. They said that apparently it looks that Police is supporting the opponent party and wanted to arrest in any way.  They expressed that Raja Muhammad Zafeer, Advocate is a respected member of the Islamabad Bar, his arrest is a blatant violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

 

They further said local Bar leadership tried to meet the DIG Police, Islamabad and submitted application for transfer of investigation of case but neither DIG met the Bar leadership, nor any order passed on that application. They took serious exception about the autocratic conduct of the Islamabad Police and emphasized that law enforcement agencies should strictly adhere the legal procedure and respect the rights of people, especially members of the legal fraternity, who ever play a vital role for upholding the Rule of Law in the Country.

 

They demanded immediate release of Raja Muhammad Zafeer, Advocate, Islamabad and calls upon the Inspector General of Islamabad Police to conduct a transparent and impartial inquiry of the matter and take action against the responsible Police Officials and shall ensure that such like incidents shall do not recur in the future.
