        The 216th meeting of the Pakistan Bar Council was held today at 02:30
p.m. in Council’s Office, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ashtar
Ausaf Ali, Attorney-General for Pakistan and Chairman, Pakistan Bar
Council. The meeting was attended by all its learned Members.

        The Council apart from transacting other business of its agenda also
passed/taken the following Resolution/decision:-

(i)     Condemnation of Terrorists attack in District Courts,

        The Council while strongly condemning the yesterday’s terrorists attack
in District Courts, Mardan passed the following


        “The Pakistan Bar Council strongly condemns terrorists attack in District
Courts, Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulting into death of more than 13
innocent persons including 4 Lawyers and two Police officials and serious
injuries to more than 60 persons among whom 17 are Lawyers. The legal
fraternity was still in the state of shock of Quetta incident which
happened just two weeks back that another tragic incident took place in
Mardan. The Lawyers throughout the Country, on call of the Pakistan Bar
Council, therefore, observed Strike today for condemnation of terrorists
brutality in sequence.

        The Pakistan Bar Council urges upon the Federal as well as the Provincial
Government of KPK for taking immediate necessary steps for improvement of
the law and order situation and to provide safety and security to the
people specially the Lawyers who are being constantly targeted by
terrorists. The Council also expresses solidarity with families of
martyrs and those injured in the unfortunate incident. The Council also
demands of the Government to pay substantial monetary  support to the
tune of Rs. 10 Million for the rehabilitation of families of each
martyred Advocate and Rs. 5 Million to each injured Advocate.

        It is also decided that the Pakistan Bar Council from its own fund will
pay an amount of Rs. 3 Lacs to each of the martyred Advocate and Rs. 2
Lacs to each of the martyred Police officials in recognition of their
gallantery performance, whereas an amount of  Rs. 15 Lacs has been
earmarked for proportionate payment towards financial relief to injured
Advocates through a sub-Committee comprising of Mr. Abdul Fayaz,
Chairman, Executive Committee, Mr. Sher Muhammad Khan and Syed Amjid
Shah, Member of Pakistan Bar Council.”

(ii)    Re-constitution of standing Committees of Pakistan Bar

        On the move of Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon the existing standing Committees
of the Pakistan Bar Council were reconstituted for better functioning of
the Council.
