Press Release

Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhry, Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council have strongly condemned the politically motivated and calculated statement of Senator Nehal Hashmi threating the Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court and Members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing PANAMA Papers Case, that being a manipulated and managed move of the Government not only to make the investigation being carried out by the JIT nominated by not less than the apex Court itself, controversial but also to threaten the Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court specially those who are on the Bench of the PANAMA Papers Case, the object is very clear to pressurize the JIT and Judges of the Supreme Court. Since the verbal attack of Senator Mr. Nehal Hashmi on the apex Court and its nominated JIT, falls within the ambit of Sections 6 & 7 of the Anti Terrorists Act, they have demanded of the Government to immediately get registered a criminal case against Mr. Nehal Hashmi.

Taking strong exception to Press statement of the Government’s Spokesman reacting to observations of the Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court which not only is derogatory and contemptuous but also amount to direct interference in functioning and independence of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, they appealed the apex Court for immediate legal and penal action against those on whose behest the said statement has been issued.

The Vice-Chairman and Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council recalled that the legal fraternity always stood for supremacy of the Constitution, Rule of Law and Independence of Judiciary and will fully stand by the Supreme Court, against any ill-motivated and politically designed onslaught of the Government to threaten the independence and constitutional functioning of the judiciary. They have also warned the Government to desist from its moves of creating hindrances against constitutional and judicial functioning of Supreme Court regarding Panama Leacks Case which is exposing the Ruler’s criminal acts of money laundering of billions of Rupees from public exchequer otherwise the Lawyers will not hesitate to launch country wide movement against the Government.
