PRESS RELEASE

The 244th meeting of the Pakistan Bar Council, was held Today at 11 AM, in Council’s Office, Supreme Court Building, Islamabad, with Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan, Attorney-General for Pakistan & Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council, in the Chair.

3. The Pakistan Bar Council, apart from transacting other business on the Agenda, took the following

4. ELECTION OF THE VICE-CHAIRMAN.

Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan, Attorney-General for Pakistan and RETURNING OFFICER for Election of the Vice-Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council, invited proposals for the election of the Vice-Chairman. In response, Mr. Farooq Hamid Naek, proposed the name of Ch. Tahir Nasrullah Warraich from Lahore seconded by Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, as candidate for election as Vice-Chairman. As there was no other

proposal, the learned RETURNING OFFICER, DECLARED CHAUDHRY TAHIR NASRULLAH WARRAICH, ELECTED UNOPPOSED, AS VICE-CHAIRMAN, PAKISTAN BAR COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR-2025.

5. The Council also unanimously elected MR. MUHAMMAD TARIQ AFRIDI FROM PESHAWAR, AS CHAIRMAN, EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE PAKISTAN BAR COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR-2025.

6. As, at that stage, the learned Attorney General for Pakistan & Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council, had to leave for attending some of his official engagements, he left the meeting and rest of the proceedings were conducted under the Chairmanship of Ch. Tahir Nasrullah Warraich, the newly elected Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council.

7. The Pakistan Bar Council, has prescribed/added the following new sub Rule (6) in Rule 108-C of the Pakistan Legal Practitioners Bar Councils Rules, 1976 pertaining to uniform of Law Students and apprentice:-

“RULE 108C.

“[(6)]. (i). Every male student shall wear white shirt with gray coat & maroon tie and female student shall wear maroon dupatta/shawl/scarf and gray coat and Every male apprentice/pupil shall wear white shirt with black coat and maroon tie and female apprentice/pupil shall wear black coat & maroon dupatta/shawl/scarf distinguished from the normal dress code of the lawyer as mentioned in the rules.

(ii) All the undergraduate law students who attend the court premises and court proceedings in pursuance to their research work during law graduation shall follow the same dress code as prescribed in sub-rule (i) herein above.

(iii) An apprentice/pupil as well as an undergraduate law student shall not participate and/or campaign for any candidate in the election of Bar Councils and Bar Associations.

(iv) In case of a complaint for non-compliance of above sub-rules (i) and (iii) made to concerned Bar Council, its Executive Committee shall decide the complaint, after giving opportunity of hearing within 15 days and if the complaint is proved apprenticeship/pupilage shall be increased to twelve months.

(v) In case of a complaint for violation of sub-rules (ii) and (iii) made to Principal/Head of Department of concerned Institution, he/she shall decide the complaint after giving opportunity of hearing within15 days and if the complaint is proved apprenticeship/pupilage shall be increased to 18 months on receipt of decision from the Institution.

(vi) In case of failure of Institution/Head of Department to decide the complaint, the Executive Committee of the concerned Bar Council shall take Suo Moto notice thereof and decide the complaint with consequences as mentioned in sub-rules (v) herein above.”
