PRESS RELEASE

Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhry, Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council have expressed their grave concern on the stalemate arising out of unfortunate situation of hooliganism in and outside the Court Room of Mr. Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan in the Lahore High Court Multan Bench, and there after in the Court of Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, couple of weeks back, which not only has tarnished the image of the legal fraternity, but also has endangered the system of dispensation of justice, itself having created and enhanced the void between Bench and the Bar. The Members of the Bar specially their elected representatives having always strived for the Rule of law and independence of Judiciary, are supposed to demonstrate more responsible and matured conduct for strengthening the system. At the same time the Judiciary is also expected to acknowledge contributions and sacrifices of Members of the Bar in that regard and give them due importance.

As the continued rift between Bench and the Bar is a serious threat to the system of dispensation of justice, the Pakistan Bar Council being apex Bar Body urge upon the office bearers of the all Lawyer bodies, including Supreme Court Bar Association to perform responsibly and discourage the miscreants, to make the Bench and Bar, free of spoilers. We all Lawyer representatives, on one side say that even Prime Minister is not above the law, then how we can deviate from the same principle for a lawyer representative. They urged the President, Lahore High Court Bar Association, Multan to join judicial proceedings and appear before Full Bench of the Lahore High Court to clear his position, which is imperative to pay respect to the Court which is important for the smooth functioning of the system in larger interest of the legal fraternity as well as the Judiciary.
