PRESS RELEASE

12TH May Mayhem

Call for Black Day Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Ch., Chairman, Executive Committee, Pakistan Bar Council have appealed the Legal fraternity to observe Black Day on Friday, the 12th May, 2017 throughout Pakistan in condemnation of the Carnage of 12th May, 2007. They have requested the Members of the Bar as well as Members of the Civil Society for observing Nation-wide Black Day on 12-05-2017. All the Bar Associations throughout the Country will hold protest meetings in their respective Bar Rooms to reiterate their strong condemnation of the tragic incident of 12th May, 2007 when large scale killing of innocent citizens took place and number of Lawyers were burnt alive in their offices. Although the people in general and the legal fraternity in particular, who had high hopes that the Lawyers movement launched for restoration of Judges of Superior Courts, would result in alleviation of their problems through efficient and much improved system of dispensing justice but they have greatly been disappointed as the movement did not yield desired fruits/results because of political pursuits of the then Chief Justice of Pakistan, they added. The Lawyers while observing Black Day on 12-05-2017 will hoist Black Flags at offices of their respective Bar Associations and would also hold protest meetings to strongly condemn the instigative conduct of the Government of that time for letting the tragic incident to happen and inaction of successive Governments to hold high level inquiry for fixing responsibility and bringing the culprits to book and awarding them punishment under the law.
